The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh (1964)

 In Rare & Unusual

The films of Walt Disney are always a favorite. When the film, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, first aired on the TV show, Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color, way back in 1964 I was there in front of the TV thoroughly enjoying the event.

After all these years the folks at Alternate Images released a resin figure of the star of the film. The building of the piece was relatively straightforward.

However, there were no pieces that resembled the piece of wood that was over the upper shoulders of the scarecrow so this was scratch built with plastic rod and painted. Tattered material to cover the wood pieces was made from Aves apoxie sculpt. For the hay the kit supplied chop sticks that were supposed to be cut in small pieces and attached to the head to resemble hay, but since they did not look real enough I went to my spare parts box and located some small scale hay leftover from a previous project. The individual strands of hay were glued in place one at a time. An alternate name for this film is “Dr. Syn”, an odd name for a church vicar!
