Escape From The Planet of The Apes (1971)

The opening sequence to Escape from the Planet of the Apes was quite a surprise the first time I saw this at the theater. This diorama effectively captures this moment in the film when the three ‘ape-o-nauts’ arrived on the sandy beach. The overall paint scheme was straight forward. Since the ape-o-nauts were on a beach then an appropriate base was made. Railroad ballast to simulate beach sand was glued (spritzed with diluted white glue) to a strip of wood and side molding attached for the base.
