Guardian of the Fleece – Jason and the Argonauts (1963)

In the Ray Harryhausen film, Jason and the Argonauts, their search is for the golden fleece which is guarded by the seven-headed Hydra. Jason battles the Hydra and claims the fleece. This large diorama was sculpted by Joe Laudati and manufactured by Vince Herman at Saturn LTD Model Kits. To mimic the highly reflective fleece as seen in the film the fleece part was first painted gold followed by a coat of brushed on white glue. Then small gold flakes were sprinkled on the part and allowed to dry. The effect is convincing. All paints are acrylics.
