Quarter-Scale Karloff Mummy (1932)
At the 2016 Monsterpalooza show one dealer had this quarter scale Karloff mummy kit that was quite remarkable in its size. The dealer said he only made three copies and this is one of those. The back of the torso had a large seam that needed correcting (I got most of it) otherwise it was a flawless casting. After washing the pieces in warm, soapy water to remove mold residue, the piece was black base-coated. After a white initial layer of paint the figure was followed with a series of umbers and siennas, both transparent and opaque to add “age”. After that some chalks were added for texture and the entire piece was dullcote sealed. The ring was painted pearlescent to simulate lapis lazuli.
