Kelley Freas Robot

 In Modern Classics

Hugo Award winning artist, Kelley Freas, created the cover image to the October, 1953 issue of Astounding Science Fiction digest magazine.  This cover image has become iconic so much so that the band, Queen, used it for the cover of their album, News of the World.  This 1/36th scale vinyl version of the Freas robot was released by Sideshow.  The hands are of white metal and therefore heavy so they need extra attention to prevent vinyl arm sagging over time due to the weight of the metal.  To prevent this the arms were internally reinforced with 3/32nd inch brass rods for extra rebar-like support.  The lower legs were filled with plaster-of-paris and brass rods to also provide extra support.  The vinyl base itself is hollow so it was also filled with plaster-of-paris.  All paints are acrylics.
